Job Interview Skills, http://www.karen-keller.com
Do you know what to focus on in your next job interview?

You’ve gone and done it. You’ve decided to resume the search for your ideal dream job. You’ve done everything right: hired a job coach, perfected your resume and have refined all your social media references to a precision point. And you got the call! Now you have an interview scheduled in the coming days for a company that you think is a great fit for you.

Oftentimes, this is where we begin to panic. Up until now you’ve had help getting everything just right and you’ve had the control, but now the control is going to shift to the company interested in you. Anything can happen in an interview, but you can exhaust and overwhelm yourself if you try and anticipate everything that they could possibly ask you. That’s when it’s time to calm yourself and focus on a couple central points to really nail your interview.

#1) Be yourself. Why would you want to pretend to be anything other than yourself in an interview for a job where you will spend at least 40 hours of your life each week? Most people can tell when someone isn’t be authentic and even if you do fool them, you’ll have created an entirely different persona that you have to be while you work there. Trust me, your sanity is so much more valuable than any job out there.

#2) Get on Google. Just like you did in college, research, research, research. In this day and age, there is absolutely no excuse for not having a good amount of information on the company you’re interested in. When you do your research, you’ll go into the interview with the confidence that you know everything you possibly could about the company.

#3) Know your numbers. Of course you should smile, but you should also go into any interview with numbers. When an interviewer asks you about your previous accomplishments, put them in a statistical format.  Your interviewer will typically be impressed that you are so organized and will appreciate the detailed information.

#4) Have questions ready. Tying back into doing your research, having questions ready for your interviewer shows that you’ve taken the time to get to know the company and you’re genuinely interested in the position. Make sure your questions are not entirely focused on your role within the company, but also on general aspects of the business.
