Even the most self confident business person on earth receives blows to their confidence. It happens when they get blind-sided by unsuspecting circumstances or are betrayed by a deeply trusted confidante. They are susceptible to falling in the path of here-today-gone-tomorrow supply of resources that make the difference between success and failure.

There are several threats to a person’s self-confidence that exist to derail them at some time or another. Many of threats exist in your daily routine. At work, at home, or perhaps in the community – it can happen anywhere in any situation. It’s important to recognize and understand the ‘confidence’ threats by being empowered, not waiting for the next shoe to drop, being prepared the best way possible.

Let’s review threats that you can take charge of.

The first threat to your self-confidence happens when someone steals credit and acknowledgment for your work, your ideas and your accomplishments. It’s worse when the “boss” buys into it. A typical response is to “let it go” or “not cause a scene” or, worse yet, believe there is some truth to it. If you have low self-confidence in the first place, it’s even harder to speak up and set the record straight.

The second threat to your self-confidence is not believing in your capabilities. You have bought into the idea that you don’t deserve what you want. Your ego isn’t prepared to go to battle to protect what is yours. You have been taught that in order to get to the top, you shouldn’t become a squeaky wheel. You are supposed to wait for what you want. On the contrary, the only way you will receive all that is due you or out there as your reward is to ask for it - be assertive!

The third, and final, threat to your self-confidence is fearing not being accepted when you are successful. Many people are threatened by others who take charge, execute great ideas and reach a pinnacle of success. Knowing this, you may not try as hard or you may hold back on displaying the talents you have.

The one thing each of these 3 threats to your self-confidence is they are in your control. If you find yourself experiencing any of these threats, remember, you are the master to give yourself permission to change it.
